How Eaton 5PX + IPP Cost Me Two Days (So You Don’t Have To)
If you’re dealing with an Eaton UPS not being detected by Intelligent Power Protector (IPP), here’s a quick summary that can save you a couple of days.
What’s Going Wrong
IPP uses broadcast to discover the UPS. That’s fine—until your network setup quietly breaks it.
1. Check Your Hyper-V Networking
If your Hyper-V cluster uses the same IP range for both:
- Management network
- CSV (Cluster Shared Volume) network
then IPP discovery may fail.
Separate those networks properly. Once you do, detection should start working as expected.
2. Watch Out for Spaces in “Location”
This one is subtle.
If the UPS Location field contains spaces, it can break things.
- Remove spaces or replace them with underscores
- Restart the network interface
Then test:
https://IP_UPS/etn/v1/comm- Works → configuration is fine
- Returns 404 → something is still wrong
A Small Note on Eaton Downloads
Finding the correct software for Eaton UPS devices is… not great.
It’s genuinely worse than looking for a needle in a haystack, and you’ll need patience—because even if you’re logged in, you’ll be asked to fill out the registration form again and again for every download.
